Newgrounds' content rating system is very clearly flawed and could definitely use an update in the age of NSFW content that doesn't just consist of sex.

Recently I encountered a piece of very obvious fetish art rated T. The fact that it wasn't E-rated means that the artist took the time to mark their art with a rating, but it wasn't correct at all. Nudity does not directly correlate to whether something is NSFW anymore! Newgrounds' age rating system needs a major redesign.

Here's my suggestion: Compound Ratings.

This way, people can see what kind of content they're in for before they click on the image.

Please note that these icons are quick-n-dirty programmer art and they're just there to gauge opinion on the matter. The descriptions are placeholders, too.

Category A: Nudity

Category 1A: Full Nudity / Sex

This content contains genitalia or depicts sexual acts. Simple as.

Category 2A: Partial Nudity

This content contains only partial nudity (e.g. breasts)

Category 3A: No Nudity

This content depicts no nudity whatsoever (depicted humans/anthro critters are fully

clothed, even if the clothing is less concealing than, say, a T-shirt and jeans)

Category 0A: Non-Applicable

There are no living beings depicted in this image.

(This rating should ONLY be applied if there are zero humans or

anthropomorphized beings in an image!)

Category B: Gore/Violence

Category 1B: Detailed Violence

Stabby-stabby blood blood death gore violence

Category 2B: Violence

(The icon is a water-gun. I'm not the best at icons...)

Violence that isn't necessarily gory (light blood fits into this category)

but is violence nonetheless.

Category 3B: Mild Incidental Gore

The gore in question is trace amounts of blood not resulting from actively

shown violence.

Category 0B: Non-Violent

This content contains no depictions of violence or gore.

Category C: Fetish Art

Category 1C: It's Porn

You drew it to jack off to

Category 2C: I Can Show It To Timmy!

You can show it to Timmy, 7, both morally and legally
